Dan took last Friday off work to spend some family time together. We drove up to St. Joe for the morning with the kids to check out some antique stores and then Dan took Vivian to the pool in the afternoon while Henry was napping. Friday evening I picked Jill up from the airport. She was in town for a girls weekend with some high school friends. I was able to hang out with them on Friday night and Saturday night for dinner. Saturday night I stayed down on the Plaza with them at the Intercontinental. It was fun...except for the fact that I had one too many drinks. Just can't drink those martinis like I used to! :-) I didn't get sick but didnt' fall asleep until almost 4 a.m. and spent most of it slumped over the toilet. Super fun. Jill came back to our house on Sunday to see the kids and our house for the first time.
This week is busy. I'm watching the neighbor kids 2 days this week for a few hours, Vivian has gymnastics, I am meeting a couple of college friends out for drinks on Wednesday night (no martinis!) and we might take the kids to a T-Bones game on Friday night. It's a minor league baseball team here in KC. Dan bought the kids walkie talkies and those are turing out to be alot of fun with the kids!
Have a couple of funny stores to share with you all. The first story is about Henry. I was flipping threw my gossip magazine - cause that's what most stay at home mom's do while they are watching soaps and eating bon-bons!! :-) Ha! Ha! There was a page that had some celebrities in their swimsuits and it was something about Best Beach Bikini or something. So keep that in mind when you read the following conversation between Henry and I.
Henry: "Cute" while pointing to the picture
Mom: "Oh you think she's cute?"
Henry: "yah. Hold Henry."
Mom: "Oh you want her to hold you?"
Henry: "yah. Nice"
Mom: "You think she's nice?"
Henry: "Yah."
The funny thing about this is...well he's 2 1/2 and is already pointing out very attractive girls and calling them cute. The other is that when there are older girls at the pool, 8 and 9 years old. Henry always wants them to hold him in the water and twirl him around or bounce up and down or whatever. So I always have to ask them if they will hold him. Which they never mind doing and most of them have seen us up there more than once so they do know him. But he just thinks it's the greatest thing. Vivian does get upset cause usually she's asked the girl to play with her and then they end up holding Henry and it doesn't sit so well with Vivian.
The other funny story is about Vivian and happened today. It was pouring down rain when we got home from the gym this morning so before we went to the grocery store we were letting the rain let up. Vivian always says she's cold when we are walking around the grocery store, so I suggested they each grab a sweatshirt to put on. I knew if she got wet while walking into the store she would be even colder in her sundress. Here is how this conversation went:
Mom: "Vivian why don't you get a sweatshirt to wear to the store."
Vivian: "I want to wear that red one with the butterfly."
Mom: "Honey, I think that one is too small and I don't even know where it is." So we went up to her room to look.
Mom: " Vivian it's not in your closet. Let me go look in the guest bedroom (where we keep clothes she's outgrown).
Vivian is in her room still helping look for it as I go look in the other room
Mom: "Viv I dont' know if it's in here either. I can't find it."
Vivian: "But mom that is the one I want to wear"
Mom: "I know Viv, we can keep looking but if we can't find it you will have to wear a different one. Oh wait...here it is...Found It!"
Vivian comes running out of her room and says "Oh good, cause I was gonna be so pissed if you couldn't find it!" She wasn't mad she just said it so matter of factly and like it was a word she uses everyday. So as I struggled to keep a straight face I explained to her that isn't a word that little girls use. Pretty sure she got that one from me. Super.
The pictures below are of Henry helping Dan hang some pictures on the wall and the other is Dan in his super man snuggie. A funny present from Grandma Carol last christmas.

We Made It!
Well Dan will be coming home tomorrow afternoon after being gone since Thursday morning. He was gone for work and then left Friday to head to Atlanta for his annual guys trip. They did the PGA golf tournament this year. Walking/standing around watching golf isn't for me but whatever the boys want to do. If I had a dollar for everytime Henry has asked "where daddy" or "daddy home?" I'd have quite a few dollars in my pocket. I wasn't sure how the weekend would go with just the kids - I think this is the first time he's been gone this long - but it's been really good. We've kept busy so I think that has helped.
Thursday we had our neighborhood playdate and went and did some shopping so we were busy. Friday we hit the gym and then we had the neighbors over for dinner (her husband is gone for 3 weeks). Saturday afternoonVivian had a birthday party during Henry's nap time. We took the dogs for a few walks, went to the pool and Sunday night our neighbors had us over for dinner. So really between the gym, errands, grocery store, Henry's naps, hanging with neighbors it's been a pretty fast weekend. Thought it would drag but the kids are getting so much easier that we've had a pretty good weekend. Don't get me wrong I will be leaving the house probably 10 mins after Dan walks in tomorrow...let's not kid ourselves.
I had a braid in my hair the other day and Vivian wanted to know what it was so I braided her hair....and she's wanted braids in her hair everyday since. It looks pretty cute and she thinks it's just the greatest thing ever. I will need to work on my braiding skills but pretty sure the more I do her hair the better I will get. The kids have a dentist appointment this week. Vivian's 3rd dentist appt and this will be Henry's first appointment. Keep your fingers crossed for no cavities!!!
Jill is coming into KC this weekend from Colorado to meet some of her high school friends. I'm excited to see her and have a girls night out on Saturday night!! Woot! Woot! So I get to have some time away this coming weekend, even if I'm not leaving the city - I'll take it!

Just L I V I N'
Not much going on here. Dan and I got a sitter on Saturday night and went to dinner and saw a movie, Horrible Bosses. Pretty funny - good cast of actors. We pretty much leave the house to go to the gym and workout, Vivian's gymnastics class and the pool. If you are outside the best way to be is in the pool but even so the pool isn't very cool. Kinda like warm bath water. Vivian has a couple of older girls at the pool she's made friends with, Delaney and Sophia, who are both 8 yrs old. Today someone put the hose from the pool into the water today to try and cool it down. That would take forever! Henry played with the hose for a little while and kept saying "Fireman" over and over again. Vivian went underwater today, but not by choice. She was playing with her friend DeLaney who picked her up and bounced her, let her go and under she went. She's was pretty scared when she came back up so I had to explain to DeLaney that she doesn't know how to go under water yet.
Today Vivian and I made chocolate chip cookies and Henry was excited to wake up from his nap to such a yummy treat. Tonight after their bath I put a towel on Vivian's head like mom and she thought that was so funny! Vivian keeps asking what planet everyone lives on....I keep assuring her that we all live on the same planet. She then goes through a long list of names just to make sure they are truly on the same planet as her. Henry is quite the talker saying 4 word sentences and repeating everything! It's a big change and we are loving this age. Didn't feel like we ever got to do this with Vivian cause when she started talking she was talking so clear and in full sentences. Henry talks alot about "army men" and "mean guy"...pretty much anything can be either of these things.
Last week she played at a friend's house, Haley, who has Kids Bop CD's in her room. So Vivian came home asking for a Kids Bop CD that had the song "Please Dont' Stop the Music" by Rihanna. For those of you who don't know what Kids Bop CD's are they are the following: popular songs of today that are sung by kids for kids. So it has Black Eyed Peas, Kesha, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, etc songs that are sung by kids and the lyrics are slightly altered so they are appriopriate for kids. Vivian sings and sings and I have to say it's a much better change from Dora. Although I have been able to get her to listen to ABBA lately. She's keep to sing "Money, money, money must be funny in a rich man's world." This will come in very handy since she's going with me and grandma Carol this coming weekend to see the musical Mama Mia!!
Enjoy your week and stay cool!!! Crazy hot out there.
