On Wednesday, Vivian brought home one of her first school projects. She's brought home paintings and such but this was different than that. They have been discussing dinosaurs most of the week so the project centered around that. They took a shoebox and glued rocks, sand, trees and play dinosaurs into to recreate what it looked like when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Each kid was asked what was going on in the project they created. Then their quote was written on the back of the box. In case you can't read the picture I posted... here it is....."T-Rex killed the meat eater. The baby is dead and here comes the big, bad dinosaur to kill the other dinosaurs." So does this seem disturbing to anyone else? Dan and I weren't quite sure how respond to the her story other than "Oh....wow...that's really good."
Vivian has a birthday party on Saturday so the other night we went to Target to get a gift. Dan and Henry decided they would go along with us. Before we left, I asked Vivian if she wanted to grab her money (that she's been earning by doing things around the house) to bring with her. If she saw something she wanted she could use her money to buy it. She was thrilled with that idea! Of course Henry wanted to bring his wallet with him too. He got a zip up coin purse thing in his stocking from Santa. At the store Vivian chose a long wig that she could wear to play dress up...looks like Rapunzel's hair. Two of the neighbor girls have similar wigs they wear. We all know how badly Vivian wants long hair so it shouldn't be a surprise! Henry picked out a truck that he wanted to get. Vivian went through the checkout line in front of us and gave the lady her money (she was short a dollar so we pitched in) and waited for her change. Afterward she was so excited and said to Dan "pretty soon I will have enough money to buy everything" Oh such wonderful optimism!! If it were only that easy! As the women was ringing up our other items Henry was standing in front of the cart so I couldn't really see him, but I could see he was doing something. He put his truck upon the belt with the other stuff we were getting. Once I could see him I could see he was unzipping his coin purse (wallet) and he had a play $5 bill in his hand. So I said "Oh you brought your money too" He said "yeah I got some money"
I told him to hand it to the women behind the counter, he did and she took it from him and said Thank You. He was feeling pretty good about himself after that. It was so cute and so funny! Seems like the 2nd one grows up faster than the 1st one. Enjoy the pictures!

We finally got snow!!
On February 13, 2012 we finally got our first snow of the winter! It was a very exciting day! The kids went out in the snow and played briefly before we left to take Vivian to school. That afternoon Vivian played outside in the backyard with a neighbor friend for about 45 mins, mostly just eating the snow and making piles with the snow. Dan came home early from work so he could play outside with the kids. We bundled the kids up and headed out to the snow! We finally got to use the snow fort kit that Aunt Jamie and Uncle Kevin got the kids for Christmas. The kids really loved using the snowball maker that came in the kit - thank goodness it came with two of them - since my kids still don't share all that well :-) We weren't outside very long when most of the neighbor kids came out to join us. Lana (7yrs) and Janae (5yrs) came over and informed me they have never made a snowman before. How odd I thought...until their mom sent me a text thanking me for letting them come over and play since she isn't a snow person. We played outside until almost 6pm and Jenn came over to have dinner with us. Jeremy is at St. Jude's during the week so I've been inviting Jenn over to have dinner with us during the week. She's busy with work and working late so she's pretty tired by the end of day.
This past Friday we went to a carnival at Vivian's elementary school that she will attend in the fall. It was interesting to say the least. Elementary schools sure aren't what they were when I went 30 years ago! The kids had a good time playing games and seeing their friends. We had pizza, Vivian got her hair spray painted pink and filled up on candy, cookies and cotton candy.
Saturday night our friends had a belated Valentine's Day gathering at their house. The girls were supposed to get all dressed up and the guys were supposed to wear suits. Our sitter Religh came over and the kids were so excited to see her. She is 14 and Vivian just thinks she's the best thing ever! Dan and I had a nice time out and it was fun to get dressed up for a change.
I got the kids their Easter outfits and I let Vivian pick out the shoes for her dress. I gave her 3 choices and she picked the white shoes that have a small, low heel. She basically slept in them the first night! She walks around on the hardwood floors and says "Do you hear that? That's my heel making that noise." Guess heels are just as exciting for a 5 year old as they are for a 35 year old! :-) She cried today because I wouldn't let her wear them out to play...she said "but mom, now I'm short because I don't have my heels on!" Well let's hope she doesn't get my height!
Henry went potty in the potty twice this weekend, Dan then decided Henry wasn't wearing a diaper this weekend. That didn't go so well. We had a pooping accident. He was outside and wouldn't move so I had to carry him back to the house. That was the end of that...back to diapers and we will try again in a few days. Enjoy your week!

Can You Believe this Weather???
We've been spending lots of time outside lately. Hard to believe it's in the low 60's for the end of January/beginning of February. The weather is unbelievable I'm just not sure we can keep it up through Feb and March. Henry was sick last week Tuesday through Thursday. We still didn't do much on Friday just to be on the safe side that his fever was gone. The Saturday before he got sick Vivian had bacterial pneumonia and missed Avery's bday party. But we are all doing good now!
Henry is doing much better on wearing his glasses, but the patch he has to wear is proving to be difficult. He does pretty good once it's on, but getting there is tough. He has to wear it 4 hours a day and we are lucky if we can get in 2 - 3 hours. I wore a patch over my eye last weekend and it was extremely bothersome so I can't blame him for not wanting to wear it.We went and bought a bunch of little toys to put in a box so when he wears the patch he gets to pick out a toy. Today he picked the whoopee cushion, which the kids thought was hilarious. Basically the word poop or fart is pretty funny around our house. Or any word with poop added to it (IE. poopy face, poopy butt, poopy shoe, etc) I'm sure you get the point. The whoopee cushion when with us to take the dogs on a walk today. The neighbor kids were calling it a fart pad....oh I'm sure the neighbors just love us!
Dan has been gone a couple of nights this week so Grandma Carol came down to visit. She went and saw Vivian and Henry's gymnastics glass, came along to take them to school on Wed and went to the park. The kids always enjoy having visitors and were sad to see grandma go. Got some great pics of the kid playing out in the backyard today. Clearly Vivian likes to ham it up for the camera!
